Eddie's Diary
December 10 2005
Eddie finally comes home!! 11 weeks old. On formula, 2 per day, morning & night.
Dec 11 2005
A little nervous but too be expected. Left to himself, so he can settle properly in his new home.

Dec 12 2005
Eddie is a little more relaxed today. He's slowly getting used to us. He's eating a few raw veg too, loves the pumpkin & seeds. Is also enjoying chatting away to Cricket. Cricket doesn't seem fazed about his presence yet. He's still prefers to stay in his cage & not come out.

Dec 13 2005
today Eddie ate pineapple, apple, cucumber, pumpkin, seeds, carrots from our hand & in the bowl!! Also had several wing exercises & a lot of moving around from branch to branch very clumsily. Responds when he's spoken to now. He imitated our tone of voice, no words yet. He's been weighed at 280gr (WAY too small for his age!!) His tail has grown a fair bit since we've had him & the yellow is really showing up.
Dec 14 2005
Today Eddie rejected his formula. This concerned us because all though he's eating solids really well he's not drinking water yet, therefore needs formula to keep up the fluids. We spent the day feeding him solids by hand(only way he'd eat) & trying to encourage him to feed himself. Formula also tried on several occasions but he would just push it away. We went to work & when Dave came back he found Eddie's face full of food, his bowl empty & crop full. He'd finally eaten without help. What a relief!

Some pretty big improvements happened over the past week. Eddie is really out & about now, flying, climbing, talking. He's tried on a couple of occasions to make friends with Cricket but to no avail. Cricket hates him!! & I'm Crickets worst enemy at the moment for bringing in a new family member. He's rejected his formula on about every second day in the mornings. Still loves the night time ones though. He's slowly weaning himself.
1 January 2006 HAPPY NEW YEAR
My Chrissy present was a play stand for Eddie Dave built one. Eddie loves it, he uses everything on it & I've added some rope ladders so he can climb without slipping & with the leftover bits I made Eddie toys & hung them. It's wonderful!! He uses every inch of the stand & every toy on it!! A couple of days ago he said 'hello' YAY. Some of him has rubbed off on Cricket now too because Cricket allowed Dave to scratch his head, he's been watching us do this to Eddie. What a gentle giant he is. He fly's where ever he wants to go now. He's really taken to Dave LOL I think he'll be Daves boy. I've decided to cut out the evening formula.
January 13 2006
Well today I weighed Eddie. He's now 289gr. I think that's fantastic considering only 2 weeks ago he weighed 275gr however, it is still WAY too small!! By the time I brought him home he should have been over 300gr. He'd lost some weight but it seems since putting him on a bought formula, also eating ALOT more fresh stuff, he's gaining weight. Becoming very unclear of his subspecies. It's so hard to tell what he should be. His tail is identical to the vos. He's only the size of a SI but seriously under weight. Asking around the place about this, we've come to the conclusion he's either been reared on a formula that was lacking the nutrients they need as a baby. This can actually stunt the growth, and/or, he's a x breed of SI & another (RS), which would count for the look of a RS & only the size of a SI. But this doesn't explain the lack of weight. If that's the case I'm not really particularly happy about this. Breeders really shouldn't be allowed to do this BUT he's our baby & I won't be getting a refund or complaining about it. He's still a wonderful gentle giant He has been a bit of a pain to Cricket though. I think Eddie knows Cricket hates him being here. Eddie has been doing a little stirring & flying to Crickets perch & eating his food. Poor Cricket, he's really put out by this whole thing...
Eddie all puffed up at the camera. He doesn't like it one bit!

Eddie started to wean off 2 feeds a day approx 3 months of age. He is fully weaned at approx 4 months of age & is eating well & with no problems whatsoever.
12 Feb 2006
Today weighs in at 320 grams. FINALLY over 300r but still a fair bit under weight.
Well it seems Eddie is now curious of the camera! YAY...we've been filming him & playing it back to him, so he hears himself. It's been working & although he is cautious, he's also curious of the camera now. I can get close ups without him freaking!!
He's also starting to get a bit of a naughty & stubourn streak in him....He's very funny to watch on playing & squealing!!
March 1 2006
Eddie is now picking everything up by his feet & playing with stuff!! He's had the clip, can fly & safely glide down. I'd like to clip him a little more just to be sure if he's outside he won't get away! He's on formula every 3rd day. He's put himself on it. He's stopped asking every second day & now asks when he remembers!!
That's great! That's what I wanted to happen.

I took Eddie outside!!!!
He was a little nervous so I we only stayed out very briefly.
this is a closed off pergola part. It's safe to leave birdy out here, they can watch the world go by & nothing can get in. It's Crickts fav spot!
Eddie on the grass
Eddie's morning routine for today....

Hang about & wait for us to let him out in the morning.
Have his brekky, all sorts of stuff. He usually chooses to hoe into the passionfruit first if I give it to him.
All in a mornings work....or play

Eddie also now says 'hello', 'hello cricket', bugger' (oops that would be from me), 'no cricket', 'ohhhhhh niiiiice', from that Ford TV ad if anyone knows what I'm talking about. He's learnt to meow like my cat! He's also learnt to squeal like the black cockies, Grrrr. & he barks & whimpers like his toy puppy (his fav toy).
